Asset Building Network, Inc. - 2008 Program Report


Asset Building Network exists to build and restore individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency through Case Management Services including Advocacy, Counseling, Education, Employment, and Information and Referral to children and women living in poverty. Asset Building Network, Inc primary focus is to bring restorative solutions to disaster survivors. We have been that place that opened our door and caring hearts with smiling faces to give hope to those in despair, no matter the situations. The gift we give to our client is the Listening skills that our staff possessed. We are particularly good at identifying client their needs, and then find solutions to the problems and issues that affect them through Case Management and Counseling Services. We build our clients with encouragement words to enhance their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, mental and physical well being, and connect them to resources.

 We are grateful to our leadership, the Board of Directors, especially our Board Chairman for his commitment and dedication to the mission of Asset Building Network, Inc. We also applaud the leadership of the Greater Houston Long Term Recovery Committee and our community partners, and individuals who gave themselves in service and ministry through the Local Unmet Needs Committee, to meet the needs of clients’ on a weekly or monthly basis. Their valuable time, talents, funds, encouragements, prayers, and donations were highly appreciated. We are blessed to have moved into a larger office space and have retained a part-time counselor to help with client’s mental health needs. 

Here are our accomplishments in 2008:

Implementation of Building Community Resiliency Counseling Program


  • 141 hurricane survivors had face to face contact with the Counselor
  • 75 hurricane Katrina & Rita survivors received individual therapy
  • 100 individuals received case management services
  • 17 persons were identified as employed
  • 632 people received information and referral to other services in the community
  • Four persons received rental assistance
  • 11 people received utility assistance
  • One client received assistance with a purchase of a brand new Sewing Machine
  • Two women were assisted with Car Repairs.
  • More than twenty students received School Uniforms
  • More than 300 families benefited through our onsite Disaster Relief Outreach following the aftermath of hurricane Ike.

Support: United Way of Greater Houston provided financial resources to meet the unmet needs of clients. The Houston Food Bank donated Emergency Food meals ready to eat to families affected by hurricane Ike. Feed the Children donated food, cleaning and toiletries and water bottles and books to disaster affected families. The office is staffed with two full-time employees. The amount of phone calls coming through Asset Building Network, Inc., is a demonstration of the impact that our services have made in the Southwest Houston and the surroundings.
